Our next Happy Hour/Open Mic is June 5 at the Highway 20 Roadhouse, 2152 West Sims Way, from 5:30 – 7:30.  

The sing-along songs attached are the same songs we will be doing for Frank’s Celebration. These were some of Frank’s favorites. Please print them and bring with you.

Get into the practice habit. This class will review hand yoga to stretch out the playing muscles, a How to Practice Guide, play I, IV, V chord progressions, learn a few strums and put it altogether with a simple upbeat tune. Handouts provided.

We’ll be playing some great songs from the 1920’s, 30’s, and 40’s while working on moveable chord forms. It’s another arrow in your ukulele quiver to learn to play up the neck and this class will give you the opportunity to work on it. Handouts will be provided. All skill levels are welcome and standard ukes can sneak in if you want to swing with us.

Walter’s class is for beginners, those who have never played a ukulele or for those who want a basic brush-up.  Walter will take you through how to hold the ukulele, how to strum, and how to play some easy chords.  At the end of the session, you will be able to play several songs and play them well.    We have loaner ukes.

Ron picks a series of tunes that will help you build your skills and confidence playing in the keys of F, C, G, D, and A.  Most of the tunes will be out of the yellow Daily Uke book.

Intermediate 103                        Geoff Fong                           Sanctuary
This class is tailored for the intermediate player.  Most offerings at the workshop are geared towards people who know more than a few chords, and are capable of changing chords smoothly and in rhythm. Chords like C – Am – F – G7 – C. We will learn the damping technique that is essential to creating the swing rhythm and rhythm n’ blues. In addition, we will discuss holding the instrument, barre chords, moving up the neck and creating efficiency while playing. Tweak your skills while having lots of fun!!!   Come join us!

Popular Song AND Performance Skills  First, we’ll work on a mid-century classic tune. Then we’ll work on performance skills in a supportive workshop setting. We’ll ask two or three performers to play a tune of their choice for our friendly group of admirers. Let’s learn new chords, play melodies, and put some polish on our presentations. This class is for intermediate and advanced players who can confidently change chords in common keys. Music will be provided and we love baritones.

BRING HANDOUTS FROM LAST MONTH. We will explore the beauty of chords working together to make music. We’ll learn which chords work well together in various keys. We’ll learn what it means to play a I, IV, V or a I, vi, IV, V chord progression. Lots of playing to get comfortable with common chord progressions. Handouts will be provided. All baritone players are welcome.

Early Pop Standard and Jump Blues: We will focus on a great early pop standard from 1924 with a subtle tweak to the chord progression that makes the song unique and fun to play. We’ll also work on a really cool tune written in 1946 categorized nowadays as a jump blues song. This type of song was the link between the blues and classic rock and roll. Handouts will be provided for GCEA and DGBE tuned ukes. This class is for intermediate and advanced players who can confidently change chords in major and minor keys.

Ukuleles Unite! Party at the Grange January 6th

Let’s “Keep on the Sunny Side” as we slide into 2019 with our Ukuleles Unite New Years Party on Sunday, January 6.

No matter what’s happening outdoors, we’ll be keeping things bright and sunny inside the Quimper Grange at 1219 Corona Street, just off Sheridan in Port Townsend. The festivities run from 2 pm and until 5 pm. We’ll be eating, talking, and playing tunes.

Please bring finger food and any beverage you’d like to have. Ukuleles Unite will provide the pie, ice cream, and coffee. We’ll have a table set up for a Swap Meet, so bring instruments, books, stands, or other gear you think others would enjoy. Even old sheet music to share for free!

Come prepared to play Open Mic for us or lead a tune. We’ll play some summery tunes from the yellow Daily Ukulele book to keep us all on the “sunny side.”
